At 4:20 pm on Thursday August 23rd, roughly 300 Stoopidheads gathered at the KROQ Red Bull Sound Space to partake in a special and intimate Slightly Stoopid performance. The small, yet fully equipped room, which was once an office space full of cubicles, is now home to a stage adorned with artwork crafted from old school radio equipment and flashy boomboxes. Since it's unveiling last October, the Red Bull Sound Space has hosted performances from everyone from Coldplay and Neon Trees to Serj Tankian and Falling In Reverse. However, despite it's reputable list of performers, the stage had yet to see a reggae band; that is, until yesterday afternoon. Slightly Stoopid became the first reggae band to grace the stage, and grace it they did.
KROQ voice Nicole Alvarez introduced the band a few minutes after 4:20 pm, and after a couple of microphone malfunctions, Slightly Stoopid jammed out for an almost 40 minute set. The capacity crowd full of fans and friends alike, including members of Iration, Seedless and Fishbone, were all pleasantly surprised to not only hear new material from 'Top Of The World', but also old favorites like "2am" and "Hold On To The One." Slightly Stoopid's seventh studio album, 'Top Of The World', was released on August 14th, so fans in attendance were among some of the first to hear the new material performed live. And as if hearing new songs performed in such an intimate setting wasn't special enough, Stoopidheads also got to hear a cover of Charles Wright's "Express Yourself" and a special on stage collaboration with Dre Gibson.      Slightly Stoopid's Sound Space performance was something else. Stupidheads in attendance were truly blessed that the band took the time out of their busy schedule to play such a special show. And luckily for them, band members topped off a great performance by hanging out and taking pictures after they got off stage. Slightly Stoopid's talent and great attitude made every second of the afternoon not only entertaining, but also enjoyable.
