Interview with Kara Lyn

 

What got you into the scene?
The music drew me in and the vibes keep me coming back. No matter what I am experiencing in my life, good times or bad, there is a song that I can relate to. When nobody else is there, music is. Being involved in the underground music scene has changed my life. Every week I have something to look forward to because there are always good shows going on. I have met so many amazing people and have seen so many amazing places that I never would have experienced if it weren’t for music, and for that I am extremely thankful. There is something about being in a room full of people who radiate positivity that you just can’t get anywhere else than at a live show.

 

What exactly is the Street Team doing? What are the goals for the Street Team?
My vision for the So Cal Street Team was to find a way to unite supporters, promoters, bands, and fans with the goal of spreading the positivity that we experience through music to the masses. I created the So Cal Street Team in July 2012 with the help of my friend Bryan Harding and we currently have over 500 members who are as passionate and supportive of the music scene as we are. We are working closely with members in different areas such as San Diego, Orange County, Inland Empire, and South Bay to form strong street teams that are ready to help spread the love and positivity that we have experienced through music. While this is a growing movement in Southern California, the So Cal Street Team has a wide reach throughout the United States. The So Cal Street Team has face-to-face meetings with members in various cities. During these meetings we discuss upcoming local events and designate street team members to help promote the shows, both online and ground. We go to shows together and pass out flyers and hang posters for upcoming events.

 

We have 2 Facebook pages where street teamers interact. Our group page is utilized as a “promotion hub” where street teamers can post information on upcoming events in their area. Anyone who wants to help promote the event can share the information with their friends or on their personal pages to spread the word to larger audiences. We occasionally announce contests and street team gatherings on this page as well. Our main page is dedicated mostly to the events that the So Cal Street Team is directly supporting. We occasionally have contests where street teamers can win free concert tickets and band merchandise for helping spread the word about upcoming events. We recently partnered with California Roots to promote the 2013 California Roots Festival. We are going to be choosing street team leaders in multiple cities who would like to help promote the festival within the next few weeks. We will also be announcing contests from January-May on our street team page, giving street teamers chances to win free festival tickets.  Everyone involved, including all of my friends, California Roots, Polynesian Underground, four:19, On Point Promotions, Belly Up, Resin Music, Owl Co, and Tribal Seeds, have been so supportive in their contributions to the Street Team. With so many minds aligned on a common goal: spreading the love through music, I am so excited for what’s to come with the So Cal Street Team!
