The Best In Reggae Rock
Congratulations on joining Iration! How did that collaboration come about?
Thanks! I've been going to Iration shows for years, and slowly got to know the guys and realize how down-to-earth they are, and how easy it is to get along with them. We had a mutual respect for each other's music, and Micah and Adam both had been telling me that they would eventually take me out on tour as an opening act. So around the time they booked me to open up last Summer's Automatic Tour, Kai deciding to step away from the band. They were looking to fill the vacancy with a second guitarist/vocalist, something new to their lineup. They were going to have auditions to find someone, but once I expressed interest, that got the ball rolling and everything went down pretty quickly. Everyone is stoked on the new arrangement
Iration is about to start the second leg of the "Count Me In Tour" with Rebelution, and The Green! Which place are you most excited to perform at? Any new citys/venues for you?
The tour ends at Red Rocks, which everyone knows is one of the most special places to experience live music on the planet, so that's going to be exciting to return there for another show. I'm also looking forward to the shows at the Santa Barbara Bowl and the Greek Theater in Berkeley.
How do you prepare for tour?
Besides rehearsals, tour preparation is pretty similar to going on a long trip, just making sure you have everything you'll need, and making sure all the loose ends are tied up at home. Luckily I have an amazing girlfriend that helps out a lot when I'm gone. One thing I always try stock up on is vitamins and EmergenC; being healthy while on the road is the most important thing and my immune system can use all the help it can get.
Are you still working on your solo music? When can we expect a new "Micah Brown" album?
Yes, I've been active with my solo project. I recently released the single "Roller Coaster" which I hope to hear on Surf Roots! It's a folky reggae pop song that's fun and catchy but still has a little bit of depth, lyrically. It's already released and will be on my next album. Not sure about a time frame yet. Lewis Richards and I are still working on a bunch of new songs at 17th Street and it's a bit harder to stick to a schedule while touring. But rest-assured there is new Micah Brown music on the horizon. I've also done a lot more studio collaborations this year with other artists like Ease Up, Seedless, and Quinn Archer to name a few.
If you could do a collab with anyone living or dead who would it be and why?
Well there's a whole lot of choices when you put it that way. But if I have to stick with one choice, the name that pops out is George Harrison. He seems like he was genuinely trying to make conscious music that would make people think, yet still had the sensibility to connect with the audience through melodies and charming songs. His guitar playing was also very unique and inspiring.
What is something interesting about you that people don't know?
I'm in the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame and threw a no-hitter in Cooperstown, NY, when I was 12 years old. Thought I was going to be a pro ball player until I blew out my elbow pitching.
How do you grow such an epic beard?
Miracle grow!
Big thanks to Micah and also SEEN P.R. for giving us the opportunity to do this interview!
